Nehemiah, the prophet, has some distinctive leadership qualities which present leaders can learn from.
Leadership qualities of Nehemiah
- He was financing his cost of feeding, though he was the governor of Judah. He was not using the money of the kingdom to buy bread or wine.
- He did not draw a salary as the governor for 12 years, though previous governors before him had been taking 40 shekels of silver.

- His assistants were working without pay.
- He did not buy any landed property for himself.
- He also ensures that his adviser in the office does not buy land for himself.
- He was focused on working for the people and did not access any allowance from state resources.
- He was thinking more about the people rather than himself, because of the fear of God.
- He had a total of 150 advisors and assistants, but he was responsible for feeding them all from his own resources.
- In summary, he was not an oppressive leader, but ruled in fear of God.
