- This description can also be extrapolated to describe the love that God has for his children.
- God is the creation of all things, but at times, some of the things he created can be used to describe some of his attributes.
- In this case, God can be described as the Rose of Sharon and the Lily of the Valley.
Song of Solomon 2 KJV commentary
How is God the Rose of Sharon?
- A rose is a beautiful flower, and God is beautiful in all situations.
- A rose is a flower of many colours, just like the rainbow, and God is present in all situations.
- A rose comes in the colours of red, white, yellow, and green. Red is symbolic of the Blood of Jesus Christ, white is symbolic of Holiness and righteousness, green is symbolic of the mortality of men, and yellow is symbolic of the peace of God.
- The rose mentioned in this verse was planted in Sharon. Geographically, Sharon in the Bible was located on the coastal plain by the Mediterranean Sea. This means the rose is always well watered, just like God provides for His children all year round.
- Another attribute of the rose is that it is sweet-smelling and exudes fragrance; symbolically, God is good, and those who work with God experience joy and happiness.
Rose of Sharon and Lily of the Valley
- The lover in this chapter, who is God, is also described as the Lily of the Valley.
- A lily is also a beautiful flower with the colours of white and yellow, which signify purity and coolness.
- The lily is also a very sleek, tender flower, which signifies the gentleness, meekness, and calmness of the holy spirit.
- As we walk with God, he expects us to have these attributes of the Rose of Sharon and the Lily of the Valley.
