Memorise: “The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him” (John 12:29). Read: John 12:23-30 |
| The gift of discerning of spirits is a type of spiritual x-ray that exposes you to behind-the-scene activities of certain podium plays. There is a spirit behind most activities taking place today. Those bereft of this gift will only see the activities and pass their judgements according to the facts of the case before them. But those with this gift are able to see the spiritual interplay responsible for the activities, hence their judgement will be different. In John 12:28-30, Jesus prayed to His Father to glorify His name through His trip to the cross. The Father replied, “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” While Father and Son were discussing, all the people nearby heard was thunder. A few people observed how directly the thundering responded to Jesus and felt it must be an angel that talked with Him. Through the gift of discerning of spirits, you could hear God speaking to you through a thunder storm. While others see an empty sky, you could see God’s writing on the sky line passing a message specifically to you. Through this gift, God is able to secretly communicate with His loved ones. May the Lord release this gift to you in Jesus name. Why does God give the gift of discerning of spirits? God uses this gift to forewarn His chosen ones of an imminent danger. In Genesis 18:17-22, God revealed His plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah to Abraham. His purpose was for him to plead so that he could spare the cities. Abraham tried but did not pass the test. He thought he would provoke God to anger, yet God patiently awaited his request for the cities to be spared because of one righteous person there. And God would have hearkened. Sometimes God shows us He is bringing some judgement on certain believers and non-believers. Have you received such revelations before? What did you do with it? Some people will jump at it and say, “Ride on, Lord.” This person is very wicked. Go ahead and judge him.” That makes you another Jonah. If you respond that way, God cannot count on you. A pastor once got a revelation of an imminent judgement on his senior pastor who had proved to be quite difficult. A demotion was coming to the senior pastor, but the younger pastor stood in the gap without informing him. Instead of demotion, the senior pastor received a promotion. That pastor has passed the test. Can God take you into confidence? Can He entrust you with His secrets? Are you spiritually mature to handle such privileged information? |
