Sermon on Joshua Chapter 2
- Joshua 2 contains the story of how Joshua sent spies on a mission to Jericho- the promised land.
- Intelligence gathering is very vital in all endeavours. Don’t embark on any business until you are fully armed with information to improve your knowledge. Vs 1,’And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there’. Don’t embark on a blind mission.
- God can use any person to achieve its purpose. Don’t be judgmental. Jesus loves sinners and desires their relevance. In this story, the spies from Prophet Joshua lodged in the house of a prostitute. Vs 1. God can use any person, even a sinner to help or bless you.
- Rahab, the prostitute hid the spies from Joshua, told their enemies fake news, and God sent the enemies of Israel on a wild goose chase. Vs 7,’And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate. May your enemies receive fake news and false information on your progress in Jesus name’
- Just like Rehab the prostitute told the spies, the Holy Spirit is telling you today: The Lord has given you the land in Jesus name vs 9,’And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you’.
- Your terror is falling on your adversaries in Jesus name vs 9
- Your persecutors will faint before you in Jesus name vs 9
- Your God will dry up the Red Sea for your sake in Jesus name vs 9
- The hearts of your accusers will melt in Jesus name vs 11,’And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath’
- Your stubborn pursuers and opposers will lose courage in Jesus name vs 11
- God used a prostitute to save the lives of the spies. God will raise up strangers to save your lives in Jesus name
- The spies received kindness from a prostitute in a strange land and were delivered from death Vs 12,’Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token’, Everywhere you go, God shall raise up people who will be kind to you in Jesus name. Receive kindness everywhere you go in Jesus name
- The spies asked the prostitute to bind a line of scarlet thread on her window ,she and her family would be saved from impending destruction by Israelites. Vs 18,’Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee’
- She bound the scarlet line in the window (Vs 21),’And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window and was eventually saved’
- The scarlet line is symbolic of the blood of Jesus. If you bind the word of God and blood of Jesus on your life, you will be saved from hell.
- I bind the word of God on my heart in Jesus name
- I bind the blood of Jesus on my house and family in Jesus name
- I am saved by the word of God and the blood of Jesus
- The pursuers of the spies searched for 3days in the mountains and could not find them vs 22,’And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not’ Your pursuers shall not you in Jesus name. Your pursuers shall miss road and miss you in Jesus name
- God eventually delivered the land of Canaan to the Israelites. Vs 24,’And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us’. Your God will deliver on his promises to you in Jesus name .My God will deliver to me my Canaan land in Jesus .My God will deliver to me milk and honey in Jesus name
