Criteria for making Heaven

Matthew 5 vs 20  For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of Heaven.

1. Jesus said that a Christian must be more righteous than the Pharisees before entering the kingdom of God.
2. What was the righteousness of the Pharisees?

• They like to show off.
• They like to be treated specially.
• They burden the Jews with various religious rules.
• They have introduced many doctrines into the worship of God.
• They are judgemental.
• They prefer to obey Moses rather than Jesus.
• They give to God by compulsion rather than to give by free will.
• They do not recognise the grace and mercy of God on sinners.
• They commercialise the Gospel.
• They wear beautiful robes outwardly, but inwardly, there is no love of God or neighbour in their heart.

3. In summary, Jesus Christ said that if we behave like Pharisees, we cannot enter the kingdom of God.
