Prayers against ancestral sin
Read 2 Samuel 21

- The land of Israel experienced famine because Saul committed cold murder against the Gibeonites – vs.1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lordanswered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.
- To appease the Gibeonites, David asked for their requirement for an atonement.
- The Gibeonites requests for sevens sons of Saul. This request was granted, and the seven sons were eventually handed over to the Gibeonites, who put them to death by hanging.
- This is an additional posthumous tragedy to Saul in addition to the earlier loss of Jonathan and Ishbosheth.
- The lesson here is that sons can, at times, bear the sin of parents. You need to pray not to pay for the sins of your ancestors.
