- Polygamy breeds evil. Tamar was raped by Amnon, her half-brother.
- Lack of self-control breeds evil, such as lust. Amnon lusted after his half-sister, raped her and hated her at the end.
- Bad friends are bad advisers. Watch your friends and the friends that your children select. Amnon was misadvised by Jonadab, who was likely a rapist.
- Jonadab was more than a friend. He was Tamar’s first cousin. Ladies, don’t trust your cousins when it comes to sexual assault.
- David was in error by asking her girl child to prepare food for her half-brother. Children need to guide their daughters.
- Evil breeds evil. Absalom eventually murdered Amnon two years later in retaliation for raping his sister.
