| STRUGGLING WITH SIN? |
|
Memorise: “Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him” (1 John 3:6) Read: 1 John 3:5-10 |
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17) When you receive Jesus into your heart, your language, mode of dressing, ambitions and thoughts must change to the extent your friends will know the difference, 1 Peter 2:5 and Revelation 1:6 say that after your spiritual birth, you will become a peculiar person who combines the offices of a king and a priest. In the Old Testament, the offices of king, priest and prophet were handled by separate individuals. King Saul lost his kingdom when he tried to combine the duties of a priest with his. Today, believers can effectively combine these offices, By virtue of your new birth you belong to a new family – the family of the Most High God. You automatically bear a new spiritual surname – superior to any earthly surname you once bore because God is now your father. ![]() “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (1 John 3:9). A cat that is surrounded by grass will starve to death because cats do not feed on grass. Put a sheep in the grass and it will grow fat but surround it with meat, it will starve. When a man resides in the same apartment with his mother she becomes like a fellow man to him. Thoughts of sleeping with her may never arise because it is a taboo. In the same way, a bonafide child of God does not struggle with sin because God’s seed remains in him and God does not sin. If you claim to be born again and continue to enjoy sin, something is wrong with your claim. If you mistakenly fall into sin, you are full of godly sorrow for sin and immediately request for pardon. According to John 13:35, when you are born again, you become a part of a new culture of love that enables you to love your enemies. In the same way, you partake in the culture of unity, prayer and joy which make you joyful whenever fellow children of God are around you. A young man I liked once disappointed me and I told the Lord I will not love him again but He told me to continue to love the fellow because I already had His seed in me. How is your new birth experience today? |
