Watch your tongue

Memorise: “A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul” (Proverbs 18:7).

As smart as Satan is, he does not know what is on our minds until we spill it. Some Christians are too quick to expose their thoughts to Satan. If you stay by some believers for just an hour, you would have known virtually everything about them. Proverbs 21:23 says “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.” This means that if you have a loose tongue, you will attract problems to your soul. Your tongue is a very vital part of your body its size not withstanding. It can determine the destiny of the entire body. It can decide whether to feed the body with food or gravel. James 3:3-8 says it can burn down or poison the body.

Your tongue will determine how people will react to you. Proverbs 15:1 says, “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger”. This means if people will be angry at you, it is through your tongue. If they will be pleased with you, it is through your tongue. Most of us attract unnecessary battles to ourselves due to unguarded use of the tongue. Some prayers that could have been easily answered have been complicated through the use of the tongue. In the contest between Elijah and the 450 prophets of Baal, Elijah did not engage himself in too much talking. He made no public announcement of his desires. He only said the God that answers by fire will be his God. None of them had seen God answer by fire before so he attracted no complications to himself. He prayed once and the fire fell.

After the victory he opened his mouth wide. He threw caution to the wind and announced he could hear the sound of abundance of rain. Satan heard it and mustered all his demons of delay to hinder the fulfillment. He had to pray seven times before he could prevail. Keep your plans to yourself and God. Never announce your intentions and plans except you are prepared to go into serious warfare because Satan will contest it. Control your tongue. When your victory is complete testify about it. Wives should have control over their tongues. In most homes where men still engage in wife beating, it is the careless use of their tongues that unleashes the punches on them.

Much sorrow and suffering are prevalent in churches where tongues are misused.
