Memorise: “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world” (Galatians 6:14). Read: Galatians 6:11-16 |
| Death by crucifixion is one painful experience, but that is what is required from everyone who is Heaven bound. If you are born again, you must be ready to assert your domination and spiritual authority over the cravings of the flesh. If you did it yesterday, you must repeat same today, and tomorrow or else your flesh will team up with Satan and overthrow your spirit in a coup. Luke 9:23 says, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me”. You must be prepared to refuse the request of your flesh. Galatians 5:19-21 lists the desires of the flesh. If you grant any of them, you are in trouble. “But God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world” (Galatians 6:14). Apart from crucifying your flesh, the negative effects of the world also must be crucified. How? Before conversion, we had friends, relations, associates whose company we kept and relished, who also greatly influenced us. We never wanted to offend them or be in their bad books. Against our wishes, desires and state of health, we attended their parties to forestall their anger, and indulged in unhealthy habits such as smoking, drinking, gambling, etc. just to avoid being called names. Now that you are born again, you have to crucify the opinions of your friends. You have decided to follow Jesus. What your friends say no longer matters. You will not accompany them to brothels, beer parlors, lottery houses or smoking joints anymore. You will keep them at a distance. Each time they come to you is an opportunity to tell them about the love of Jesus, and the changed life you have experienced. Many believers are not yet dead to the world, that is why worldly pleasures still appeal to them. This is why they have come up with clever ways of importing the ‘world’ into the church. This is still the same two and two pence. Are you dead to the world and its attractions? If you are, then you can freely follow Jesus. But if you are not, if care is not taken you will soon go back to your vomit. That shall not be your portion in Jesus name.
