What is the Avenger of Blood in the bible?

Read Numbers 35

1. Human Blood is held sacred by God.
2. In Numbers 35:33, God warns against defilement and pollution of land through the shedding of Blood by premeditated or involuntary murder.
3. The Bible mentions an avenger of Blood, a person who has a right to kill anyone who committed premeditated murder (vs. 21 – Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.)
4. For involuntary murder or manslaughter, the offender will only be protected from the avenger of Blood if he flees to any of the six designated cities of refuge (vs. 13 – nd of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.)
5. Blood is therefore sacred, and there is the explanation of how the Blood of the son of God has the power to cleanse.
6. Earlier in the Bible, we also learnt that the Blood of Abel was crying from the land after it was shed by his brother, Cain.
