Memorise: “Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband” (Ephesians 5:33). Read: Genesis 12:10-16 |
| Abraham twice denied Sarah his wife. The reason given was out of fear of being killed either by Pharaoh or Abimelech. Each time, he released his wife to these strangers in exchange for material gains and long life. It is so sad that the one Abraham should jealously guard and protect from strangers was virtually sold into their hands. In fact, he negotiated her sale even before he got to those cities. He showed no commitment in love to her. He failed the test of love.
The love God has for us has commitment that is so strong that nothing can pluck us from His hands (John 10:29). God’s love is possessive. It is very active and He will not release us into the hands of any satanic suitor – His rival. The love that David and Jonathan shared was very strong. It excelled marital love (2 Samuel 1:23-27). What is the quality of love you demonstrate? How do you love your wife? If it is like Abraham with no sentimental attachment, then you must repent immediately or else Satan will look for a way of making you lose that spouse. Some families today are not different from that of Abraham. The husband is ready to use his wife to court those in authority for material gains. Some women do not mind encouraging their husbands into extra marital relationships with wealthy women. All such actions evoke God’s judgement. How is your love life today? Ephesians 5:22-33 says if you truly love your wife, you will be prepared to give up anything, even your life because of her. You would love her as your own self. What you cannot do to yourself you cannot do to her. When did you ever give yourself a knock, punch or use belt to flog yourself over a silly error you made? If you did not have to do so to yourself, why do so to your wife? Your wife is not a punching bag but a jewel box where you can hide all your treasured possessions. What you put into your marriage is what you get out of it. If you act in ways that lead to a breakage of your home, be informed that by such acts, you make Heaven a mirage for yourself. Repent today. |
