Memorise: “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest” (Matt 9:38) Read: Matthew 9:37-38 |
| There is no harvest without a harvester. In today’s reading, the Christian work is compared to the harvesting of wheat.
One thing the Lord makes clear is that the harvest far exceeds the harvesters. We need more harvesters if we are to bring in a reasonable harvest. But why is it that the harvesters are in short supply? Why are there far too few workers and ministers compared with the enormous work of the ministry? First, the harvesters are numerically fewer than the number required to do the work. Also, many potential harvesters are yet to be a part of the harvest. The Sauls that should become Pauls and turn our communities, regions, nations and the entire world upside down for Christ are yet to be converted. The potential financial and spiritual pillars that God would use to establish your parish could yet be among the unsaved and unreached peoples of your area. The husbands or wives of some brethren who are trusting God for spouses are yet unsaved. A lot depends on us to intensify our intercessory prayers and evangelistic outreaches to unbelievers around us so that they can fulfil God’s plan for their lives. Every church that refuses to pray or evangelize will face serious limitations. Until the church takes up the challenge of prayer, practical evangelism and follow-up, they cannot fulfil God’s plan. Another reason the harvest is greater than the harvesters is that most harvesters are under-harvesting. Are you born again? How many souls have you won to the Lord since you were born again? How many souls have you won to Him this year? We have continued to allow opportunities to lead souls to Christ to slip through our fingers. A number of these souls are daily heading for hell. You must change. Similarly, many harvesters have abandoned harvesting for mundane tasks only. Some harvesters are employing wrong or inappropriate tools for the work. Poor management of harvesters by their leaders is seriously affecting the work. This is causing high labour turnover in churches today. How are you managing the human resources God has put under you? Is your attitude encouraging or discouraging them? There is a time element in harvesting. A ripe harvest not taken at the right time could become overripe and be lost to the birds of the air. Can God count you as part of His harvesters? Do not fail Him. |
| You are either increasing the harvesters and reducing the harvest or decreasing the harvesters and increasing the harvest. Which are you doing? |
