| “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).
Every Chrisntian is called to run a race. This is an individual calling. One reason we should take our eyes off every distraction and concentrate on the race is because of two groups of witnesses. The first is the cloud of witnesses in Heaven comprising those believers who achieved for God through their faith in Christ while on earth. Hebrews 11 has a list of some of them. The truth is, the way you run the race today will someday become a reference point. If you affected your generation for God through faith, you will motivate those who will later believe in Christ. If otherwise, your story will become a story not to be told. The other group of witnesses are those who are following us – who are yet on earth. How are you running the race today? I planned to visit our church in Philadelphia some years ago. The female pastor in charge was very excited about it. She broke the news to her family on reaching home. Her young son asked if I would come to their house. And she replied in the affirmative. Then he said, ‘I am in trouble. The moment Pastor Adeboye enters this house, he will know every evil I have done’. But God is daily in your house and He sees and knows all you do behind closed doors. Nothing can be hid from Him. You may rationalize it by saying, ‘God understands. Afterall, He knows I am an ordinary human being’. But today’s reading says God is not the only one watching. If you are pressed to ease yourself in public, you will suppress the feeling because people might see you and you will be ashamed. A brother who visited Heaven once said you could pull a curtain on a window and look through something like a glass and you will be seeing the earth. Loved ones who died in Christ are privileged to watch us from time to time. Even when you cannot hear their voices or see them, they see you when you are faced with a temptation; they see you when you face Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image and you are asked to bow. They see you when you go through trials, difficulties and wilderness experiences. They applaud each victory you record over sin, Satan and the flesh. They mourn when you fall or slip. Take courage and run this race. Whenever you meet with obstacles, remember you are watched.

| In your private moment, you are watched by a cloud of witnesses, the angels, demons and the Trinity. Do you really have any privacy? |
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
I am glad someone is watching over me. I am even more glad that he has all power in heaven and on earth. i can rest in this fact, I know he will take care of me through his son Jesus and what he did on the cross.
