Memorise: “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?”(Jeremiah 23:29).

| Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” (Jeremiah 23:29). The word of God can be tough on you. When you look at it and it shows you what is wrong in your life, it could hit you hard. It will pain you and make you sad because it is described as a hammer and a two-edged sword. As soon as the mirror reveals the area of defect, move swiftly and rectify it, whether painful or not. 2 Corinthians 6:2 says now is the time to make amends. Have you ever heard a sermon you did not like? If you love yourself, request for the tape, listen carefully to it and make necessary adjustments. In the late 1970’s, even as a Christian, I was a faithful fan of Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey. I had all their records at home and some of Fela’s. I continued to play them because I saw nothing wrong with them. Then one fateful day, I came for Bible study and the preacher said all worldly music must leave your house using 1 John 2:15-17. I was very angry and said, Let us talk about Heaven and stop sermonizing on worldly music. As I went home that evening, the Holy Spirit did not let me rest. He kept repeating to me the fact that I had already heard the truth. That night before I slept, I brought out all the worldly records and got rid of them. Thereafter; I started buying Christian records. I observed that when you go to bed having listened to worldly songs, it has a way of affecting your sleep. One of them praised Ogun with some incantations in his songs. If you made the mistake of listening to it before going to bed, demons will chase you in your dream. But when you go to bed with Gospel songs, you will likely dream of angels or wake up singing unto God. How is it with you today? Are you claiming to be in Christ and still enjoy the pleasure of worldly music? Do something about this today. Any music that does not glorify God and build up your spirit man is spiritually poisonous. Any music that sanctions immorality is satanic. Any music that gives glory to local deities is anti-Christ. ‘Watch what you feed your spirit with. There is a spirit behind every music. Our reading today says if you yield to the spirit of worldly music, it will dominate your life. You will become worldly. But if you yield to the Holy Spirit, you will live a successful Christian life. Break that weight today! |

Ask God to help you part ways with the spirit of worldliness. Using Colossians 3:1-3, ask God to keep you heavenly focussed. |
So what about instrumental music?
Thanks for sharing. My teenage son who serves God demands to watch secular music on tv and it leads to huge arguments in our house – he would take every weakness of mine and throw it against me, I just can’t stand having such music played in my house – it deeply hurts me because its blasphemous against our King – do you think I should then rather get rid of the tv?
