Separate yourself to God

Genesis 13 vs. 9 – Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

1. The Lord said in the next verse that Abram would become a great nation and a blessing after he separated himself.
2. A question comes to mind: why did Abram need to separate himself from his people before God could bless him?
3. Another question was whether it was difficult or impossible for God to bless Abram unless he separated himself.
4. Abram partially obeyed God; he separated himself from his people, went to another country, but carried Mr Lot, his cousin, with him.
5. Abram partially obeyed God and received partial blessings from God.
6. The Bible states in Genesis 13vs 2 that Abram became rich, but he had no peace as the followers of Cousin Lot were always fighting Abram’s followers. See Genesis 13 vs 7
7. Abram then realised he had not totally obeyed God, and decided to do what God had earlier instructed him to do. Of course, it was too late; he had to beg Cousin Lot to separate himself from him.
8. Abram told his cousin Lot in Genesis 13 vs 9: Separate thyself, I pray thee from me.
9. The Bible records that it was after Abram decided to convert his partial obedience to total obedience that God decided to give him total blessings.

Genesis 13:14-15

10. Abram’s people were ungodly, violent, idolatrous, and wicked… That’s why God instructed him to separate himself.
11. Many of our problems are caused and fuelled by blood enemies within, yet we are still emotionally attached to them like Abraham was attached to his cousin Lot.
12. Separate yourself from that occult family, separate yourself from that idolatrous family and festivals, separate yourself from that ungodly brother and sister, separate yourself from that person living in your house or working in your office that does not believe in your God.
