The Consequences of Betrayal
Read 2 Samuel 2

- Betrayals and evil conspiracies always end in shame.
- Abner, the captain of Sauls’ armies, made Ishbosheth, the son of Saul, the King of Israel after the death of Saul.
- David should have been the natural successor to Saul, but Abner was envious of the ascendancy and popularity of David.
- Abner’s betrayal ended up dividing the kingdom.
- David ruled Judah from Hebron, while Ishbosheth ruled over Jezreel, Ephraim, Gilead, and Israel from Gibeon.
- As we later see in 2 Samuel 3, the evil alliance between Abner and Ishbosheth collapse and both of them were eventually gruesomely murdered.
