| “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war” (Revelation 19:11). God is faithful. Two of His names are ‘Faithful’ and ‘True’ because they highlight certain characteristics of God. Every name or title that any member of the Godhead bears shows the attribute and character of God. For instance, in John 14:6, Jesus is called ‘The way’ because He is the only way of salvation for men. He is called ‘The Door’ in John 10:9 because He is the only entrance into God’s Kingdom. He is also called ‘The Bread of Life’ because anyone who desires to live forever must feed on His flesh and blood. God is called ‘Faithful’ because it is in His character to be faithful: He cannot be otherwise. This is why it grieves His heart to see men in doubt of His faithfulness. A comparison between God’s faithfulness and man’s shows a very wide margin. We are looking at faithfulness – the ability of fulfilling promises made. The faithfulness of mortals is bedeviled with several constraints and limitations both within and outside their control. They can break that promise at any time. Most people do not think of their ability to fulfil a promise before they make it. When a man is trying to woo a lady he likes so much, he will offer to do or give anything that meets her fancy. Some men make promises they know they lack the ability to fulfil. That is deception and fraud. Some make promises they intend to fulfil but circumstances overtake the agreement and they become helpless. Others make promises but die before they fulfil them. Our God is faithful. He is ever on His throne and cannot be dethroned. He cannot die. He owns all things in heaven, on earth and underneath the earth. So He has the wherewithal to fulfil any promise, anytime. 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, all His promises are ‘yes’ and ‘amen’. That means every promise God has made to you must be fulfilled as long as you continue to abide in Him. How faithful are you? Some believers continue to make promises without a commitment to fulfil them. They break business agreements with ease. Some will promise to marry a particular lady but later ‘dump’ her. Pastors are not different. They will make a promise and when you ask them to fulfil it, they will tell you, I don’t know what you are talking about. This is why God cannot be faithful to them. If you break your promises to men, God will break His promises to you. If you cannot be faithful to men, God cannot be faithful to you. Check your life and drop every iota of deception. |
