| ASSISTING THE POOR? |
|
Memorise: “He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse (Proverbs 28:27). Read: Titus 3:1-7 |
| To get rid of poverty and enter into prosperity, we need to identify the causes of poverty so as to avoid them. According to Proverbs 11:24 one major pillar of poverty is stinginess. If you are living right before God but you are stingy, you will erode your right to kingdom wealth. If you cannot scatter, you will not increase. When you give, whatever you have given will return in several folds to you. So if you give nothing, you lose the right to expect something in return. Some Christians have lands in the suburb that can be used for the Gospel but they keep it back. If only they can release it, God will provide better lands in highbrow areas. Are you still stingy? Break it today and move forward. “He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want” (Proverbs 22:16). If you are an oppressor of the poor you have eroded your basis for divine wealth and prosperity. If you deny the poor, for instance your staff their entitlements, you will end up in their shoes. Some self-employed brethren employ the services of office attendants. For coming late to work once or twice, the employer will ask him to go on compulsory leave without pay. He realises the man is already a poor man yet he will compound his problem. If you sit on the salaries, benefits or promotions of others, you will end up in poverty. Release now everyone whose life you have made miserable.
“He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse” (Proverbs 28:27). One way you can bring an end to lack is by giving regularly to the poor and needy ones. You are not too poor to give out something. If you see your needy brethren probably wearing the same dress as a uniform every Sunday, but you hide your face from him, any curse that is pronounced against you will stick. Remembering the poor and providing regularly for them acts as a shield against curses. In any case, Proverbs 19:17 says whatever you give to the poor is not lost. It is only lent to God and by the time it will be returned to you, it will be with interest. If you are helping the poor, you are actually helping yourself. |

A veritable way of helping yourself is by assisting the poor. Look for 10 needy ones around you, both in church and on the streets. Sow some seed into their lives in appreciation of God’s blessings on your life. |
