Lessons from Joshua
Read Joshua 11

- Deliverance could be prolonged. Victory over the enemy may take years of spiritual resistance. Joshua fought the Kings of Canaan for a long time before he subdued them. – vs 18 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.
- It is possible to receive favour or to miss being favoured. Favour is not automatic. Favour is divine. God caused the hearts of the Kings of Canaan to be hardened so that they would have no favour in the eyes of the Israelites. When God wants to judge, He withdraws the spirit of favour. – vs 20 For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the Lord commanded Moses.
- Spiritual rest occurs after the enemy has been defeated and conquered. The land of Israel rested from war after the Kings of the land were all defeated, save the Gibeonites and Hivites – vs 23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lordsaid unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
