Sermon: Generational Curses in the bible

“Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be” (James 3:10). We shall consider a series on curses. A curse can be defined as an invitation to supernatural forces to fight against one’s enemy. Usually, curses are verbalized but some are internally generated – without opening the mouth. Curses are very swift. Immediately they are pronounced, they move into action. Curses could originate from God, a servant of God, somebody with authority over you, agents of darkness or yourself.

In Genesis 3:14-19, we see the first curse pronounced by God. In this mother-of-all- curses, God placed a curse on the serpent for being a willing vessel in the hands of Satan to cause man’s fall. From that day, the serpent lost its legs and other beautiful privileges and began to eat dust and go on its belly. Anyone who allows Satan to use him automatically attracts a curse upon himself. God also cursed the woman for luring her husband into sin. Till today, the woman folk virtually goes through the valley of the shadow of death at child birth. For godly and sincere Christian women however, that curse is broken (1 Timothy 2:15). If as a woman you still go through serious pains before delivery of your babies, you will need to work at the virtues of faith, love, holiness and sobriety which will usher you into the portion of the Hebrew women. God also cursed the ground for man’s sake. Any man who must eat from then must sweat to eat. Any man who would use fraudulent means to get wealth instead of sweating, will end up suffering more than those who do legitimate businesses. If you are employing wrong means of making wealth, you are inviting curses. Beware.

Command every curse – generational, self-inflicted or enemy-inflicted curses to be broken.If you have attracted curses from God, sincerely repent and restitute your ways.
