Memorise: “Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day” (Job 2:9). Read: Job 2:1-9 |
| Anyone who would make it to Heaven must learn to be focussed. There are several distractions on the way. The most compelling ones are those emanating from the family. Yet you must resist any method, option or suggestion that runs contrary to God’s word. In Genesis 30:1-4, Rachel, Jacob’s beloved wife became envious of her sister Leah because the latter had children while she had none. She got so troubled about it that she met her husband one dab grabbed him and said, It is either you give me children today or be prepared to bury my corpse. Jacob immediately rebuked her that he was not God. She was not satisfied with that answer so she decided to trade her house maid to her husband and raised children who later became enemies of her own children. In Genesis 30:22-24, Rachel eventually had Joseph through whom the world would be preserved. Much later she had Benjamin. If only she was patient, she would not have elevated her house maid into a house mate. Women still push their husbands into trouble. In Job 2:1-9, at the height of Job’s trial, his wife asked him to curse God and die. What an advice to a distressed man. I have always wondered why she said that, until it dawned on me that as long as Job was alive, she would not be able to marry another man. She obviously wanted him out of the way so that she could remarry. In the spirit of the event of Acts 5:1-10, some wives suggest to their husbands that it is wisdom to pay only 5% tithe, while reserving the balance 5% for the raining day. You must not allow your spouse to bring destruction upon your family. Be careful. What wrong suggestions are being offered to you? Any suggestion that goes against God’s word must be rejected. On the other hand, God may want to use any member of your family to give you a good counsel just like Moses was advised by his father-in-law, Jethro. Through that advice, his ministry was prolonged. You are accountable for your actions. Let God guide you on the advice you adopt. Subject every piece of advice to serious scrutiny. Some counsel will ruin your life. Some will destroy your ministry and reputation in one day. Some counsel will save lives and bring fulfillment. Know which one you take. |
