Warning against paganism and idolatry
Read Deuteronomy 18
God warned the Israelite nation against several pagan practices as they settled in the promised land:
- Do not worship the God of fire or stars
- Avoid divination and don’t consult diviners – vs 10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
- Avoid Astrology and Astrologers – vs 10
- Avoid Enchanters and charmers – vs 10
- Avoid witch Doctors and witchcraft.
- Do not consult magicians, charmers, familiar spirits, wizards or necromancers.
- God described all these as an abomination – vs 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
