Sermon: Living a life of purpose

Memorise: “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love” (1 John 4:8).

Read: John 6:57-58

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love” (1 John 4:8). The God we serve is a God of love. He is love personified. In John 13:1, we are told that Jesus loved His own unto the end. His love for us never fails. It is the most enduring love that can ever exist. It is stronger than all other types of love.

In John 15:13, and John 3:16, we see a demonstration of love at its best. God loved sinful men to the extent of giving His most priced possession- – His only begotten Son. Jesus loved us to the point of dying on the cross. He took your place on the cross. Oh! ‘What love could be greater than that!

The more you think of God’s love, the more you are rattled. He provides His body and blood for us to partake of during the communion. Leviticus 17:11 says The life of the flesh is in the blood. When you come worthily before God and partake of the communion, the bread brings you healing while the wine produces health. Actually, if you partake of the body and blood of Jesus worthily, you should live forever.

According to our reading, believers are supposed to live forever. When it is time to go to Heaven, believers are going to sleep and when they open their eyes, they will already be in the land of glory. If you regularly partake of His body and blood, whatever could not happen to Jesus cannot happen to you.

Jesus was never on a hospital bed. Are you sick? The Lord will heal you and keep you in divine health for the rest of your life, because He loves you so much and cannot stand you going through pain. When it’s time for me to go home, it would be a glorious exit.

I heard the testimony of a brother, a great writer, who asked the Lord to inform him when it was time to go home. He was over 100 years yet strong and in good health. The Lord agreed. One day, the Lord told him the day is already drawing near. So he asked for minimal details.

Two years later, he was about to begin another book when the Lord said, “Do not start this one because you will not finish it.” The brother thanked Him and asked for the date and time. The Lord told him it will be at midnight on a particular day. So he sent for all his children from different parts of the world to be with him on that day.

They came and had a nice family reunion. He prayed for them and blessed. Five minutes to midnight, he excused himself to retire to bed. A few minutes later, his children felt they should ask their father why he called that meeting. By the time they got to his room he had gone. How would you leave this world?

Everybody plans their exit by what they do and say.What type of exit will your present life style produce?
