Memorise: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:11). Read: 1 Samuel 27:1-12 |
| When King Saul’s pursuit of David came to a climax, the latter became weary and afraid. He feared that if it persisted, he will fall prey to King Saul’s army. David had forgotten that it was not his power that sustained him throughout the period of danger. Instead of returning to God, he decided to seek refuge the second time with the enemies. David went to King Achish and stayed with him for a while before asking for his personal place in the city of Ziklag. No matter how fierce the battle against you may be, never descend to the point of going to the enemies for help. You could easily be destroyed. When David fled from King Saul to the land of the Philistines, his faith in God was divided. The same person who said God was his strength, dumped God and trusted in the arm of flesh- the strength of the Philistine army. Intense pressure and prolonged battle has a way of bringing weariness and making the victim find alternative solutions. May you never yield to negative pressures in Jesus name. Being in the enemy’s camp, he was forced to join forces with the enemies to fight against his people. He had to destroy some nations who never had any personal quarrel with him. He served King Achish to the point that the latter entrusted his life into his hands. Can you imagine David watching day and night to make sure the enemy king who should be killed, was kept alive? He also got into deception. He made King Achish believe he raided and destroyed his own people rather than his real victims. As long as he lived in the land of the Philistines, he lived a lie. If you build a tent in the enemy’s territory, you cannot but live in deceit. Some have started a relationship, project, or career in deceit and cannot help sustaining it with lies. Come out of that lie trap or you will end up in hell. Where are you facing intense battles today? Backsliding is not the way forward. Running to the occult or agents of darkness is not the answer. Resist that pressure and stay on with the Lord. Ask Him for a renewal of your strength and grace to go through. It will soon be over. As long as the Lord remains your stay, no evil will overcome you. No King Saul will be able to destroy you. Fear not. The Almighty God is with you. You shall surely reach your goal. You shall not die before your time. |
