| The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness yet, Matthew 4:1 says He was led ‘up’. This is one reason you must seek and accept divine guidance always: it will always take you up! Another thing we observe from this passage is that immediately Jesus stepped out of river Jordan after water baptism, and the Heavens opened to Him, the Holy Spirit did not give Him any breathing space; He did not give Him a day of rest but immediately allowed Him to go for His examination with the examiner – the devil. When Heaven opens to you, there will be examinations.
You will be tested on what you have been taught so far. The examination must come because without it there will be no promotion. God will not release power to you without making sure the power will not be misused or abused. Over a period of time, I have had several occasions where I could have used God’s power on me to kill like Elijah did in 2 Kings 1:7-14. But when He gives you power, it is to be used to set the captives free and not to destroy. One reason some believers who have been seeking God’s face for the high level anointing have not been given, is because they have not been able to pass the test of restraint. If some believers were to receive the anointing on Peter, Paul or some ministers of our day, they would destroy so many lives – including their loved ones. In this regard, the way you use your tongue is very crucial. What is standing between some believers and their desired level of power is their tongue. Have you passed the tongue test? To what extent can you refrain from negative use of your tongue when provoked? Jesus had to face His examination in order to learn certain things (Heb 5:8-9). One thing Jesus learnt was obedience. He had always been the Commander. Nobody ever gave Him orders. Obedience is not easy because you have to learn it by force. There are some people God really wants to use in a mighty way but because they have not learnt the lesson on obedience, God has to look for others to take their position. If you are stubborn, God can still use you but first, He will have to break you. To become a vessel of honour in His hands, God will have to tame you like a wild horse. Some believers still find it difficult to say, ‘Yes Lord’ in basic areas such as tithing. How then can God use you? |
| Incomplete obedience cannot deliver total victory. Ask God for grace to obey without complaint. |
