Do not worship the dead.

Mark 12 vs 27

 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

1. The Bible says it is appointed to a man to die once, after which is judgement.
2. The implication is that once the person is dead, he has no more portion in this world and has gone to meet his creator.
3. While it is appropriate to mourn our loved ones, we should try to overcome every emotional attachment we have with the dead.
4. Practices like visiting the grave annually, putting flowers in the grave, and doing elaborate memorial celebrations of the dead are rarely unscriptural.
5. That is why the Bible says God is not the God of the dead but of the living.
