Genesis16 vs 4
And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
- Polygamy brings along its challenges.
- Sarah handed Hagar, her maidservant, to Abraham; to enable Abraham to bring up a child through her, as Sarah was barren for a long time.
- However, Hagar despised her mistress – Sarah, when she became pregnant. In anger and jealousy, Sarah pursued her maidservant, Hagar, with pregnancy out of her matrimonial home.
- Hagar eventually gave birth to a son named Ishmael.
- Also, God visited Sarah, and she gave birth to a son named Issach.
- Ishmael, Hagar’s son, despised Isaac, the son of Sarah, on the day of his naming ceremony.
- In retaliation, Sarah called Hagar a bondwoman and vowed Ishmael, the bondwoman’s son, will not have any inheritance from Abraham.
- Urged by Sarah, Abraham pursued Hagar and her son Ishmael out of his house, and they both wandered in the desert in thirst and hunger.
- Their descendants inherit the enmity between the wives of Abraham and their children.
- The descendants of Isaac- the Israelites and the descendants of Hagar- the Palestinians are still at war today.
- Before you delve into polygamy, consider its challenges.
Prayer
- I resist the temptation of polygamy in Jesus’ name.
