Genesis 25:29-34
And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I. And he said behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison: And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat: that my soul may bless thee before I die–
Death is the portion and end of every man. The certainty of death validates the biblical account of life and death and emphasizes the need for all beings to worship God and obey his laws. Death is at the corner; no one can cheat death forever.
Though God promises long life for all those who obey his laws, the reality is that eventually even the saints will physically die. The only consolation is that the Saints shall live in eternal bliss after the future resurrection of the dead.
The reality of death occurred to me in the year 2003, when I lost my father to the cold hands of death. He was aged 76. It was very painful. About fifteen years before his death he was diagnosed with high blood pressure and diabetes, and we the children prayed for his healing. To the glory of God, the prayer sustained his life for the next 16 years.
The children were happy. Interesting in spite of being healed, he started preparing for his death. He was always counseling us that he will soon die and that we should not be sorrowful if he dies.
Even when we told him that he was not going to die, he usually dismisses such fantasies, saying that anyone that is over sixty years of age, should be preparing for die, since the Scriptures says our life span on earth is 70years.
He was expecting to die around the age of 70, but we his children did not want him to die and were not expecting him to die because of his love for him. As a result when he eventually died at the age of 76, we were shocked and pained. But in one of my meditations after his death, I realized that he could not have lived forever. Even if he did not die then when he was 76 years old, he would have been 85 years now, and he would have eventually die one day.
So the reality is that death is a debt every man will have to pay, and death is at corner. No one knows the day of his death, including astrologers who boost of their capacity to know the future.
In the passage quoted above, Isaac behaved as a wise man, he knew he was old and he would eventually die. He said clearly that, I know not the day of my death. So he was trying to finish outstanding assignments and put his house in order.
Death is at the corner. Are you preparing for the day of your death? Are you putting your house in order? If you die today, are you sure of eternity?. Are you living your life as if you will not die forever or your living your life as if you will die one day and meet your creator in judgment?
The Bible says it is appointed unto man to die once and after death is judgment. If we realize that death is at the corner, the next thing we need to immediately do is to choose what happens to us after death.
God has given you a freewill to choose between spending eternity in heaven or hell; today that you are still alive you can exercise that freewill. Choose life and be saved. If you have not sure of where you are going to spend eternity, then you better be sure now. Jesus is the only person that can guarantee you a place in heaven. Say this simple prayer, and be saved.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and have fallen short of your glory. I genuinely repent from all my sins and pledge to go and sin no more. I accept your plan to reconcile mankind to you through Jesus Christ, who you sent in your name.
I believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and died on the Cross-to pay the penalty for my sins and redeem me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I pray that His blood washes my sins away. I believe I cannot over the enemy by my own power. I therefore invite the Holy Spirit to rule my Life. I am born again in Jesus name.
