Love is eternal. It is not limited by time. When you commit yourself to loving someone, you make commitment to everything that person is. You are who you are because of your history, because of all that happen before. To be loved effectively, we have to allow others into our history.
Many couples in a relationship argue over relatively insignificant things. Often the reason these things are important is that they remind one of the other of a past event. How can one person love another if he or she doesn’t know the other person’s history?
The church is built on relationship. We must learn to be open and honest. Too many Christians want to keep their attitude and their histories to themselves. We need to learn how to share, how to bear one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2).
Thousand of people are afraid. The church can give strength to counter that fear. Thousand have built walls around themselves because they don’t trust anyone else. The body of Christ can help it members regain trust. thousand more are codependent and get value from relationship with another person. The church can point to God love as the source of self-worth. We are not valuable because we love God; we are valuable because He loves us.
In Luke 13, Jesus took away the infirm woman’s ability to make excuss for herself and gave the strength to maintain an attitude of gratitude and praise. The church today is to be that a kind of safe haven where those who are wounded may come and fins strength in praise.
Gratitude and defensive praise are contagious. Although the Bible does not specifically say so, I imagine that those who saw what was going on the day Jesus healed the infirm woman were caught up in praise as well. Those who missed the great blessing that day were those who decided to argue about religion instead of blessing over her release.
The Bible describes Heaven as a place where the angels celebrate one sinner who comes into the faith (see Luke 15:10). They sing and praise God because Jesus heals those who are broken. Likewise, God’s people are to rejoice when the brokenhearted and emotionally wounded come to Him.
