After the catch of fishes and the two boats were brought to the shore, we are told that Peter forsook all. Luke 5:11 says: ”And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all and followed him.” We want to examine what Peter actually forsook.
The first thing he forsook was his boat. Until that moment, the boat represented his security- what made him secure. As a tool of security, a boat is limited because in the event of a real storm the boat may give way.
Many are still relying on one security personnel, gadget, one charm one the other. Leave behind those limited security measures. Come to Jesus whose name is ‘Security.’ Proverbs 21:31 says: “The horse is prepared against the day of battle but safety is of the LORD.”
Another thing Peter forsook was his net which symbolizes provision. He left the provision to go and meet with the Provider Himself. With the Provider at his side, he was guaranteed of the provision of fishes whenever he needed them. Any boat can be full with just one word from the Master.
But if he decides to settle with his boat full of fishes and leave Jesus, one day the fishes will finish and his boat empty again and that will take him back to the era of toiling all night without any fish. One was obviously better than the other.
The third thing Peter left was the fish which symbolized wealth. Some people have wondered: How can Peter leave the fishes for Jesus? One way or another he understood the limitations of fishes or wealth. Fish can rot. People may refuse to buy them. And fish may be extinct hence Proverbs 23:5 says: “Wilt thou get thine eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.”
No matter how rich you are, your wealth can disappear. There are many people who were wealthy but today due to a particular incurable disease, or unexplainable circumstances they have become very poor. Get your eyes on Jesus.
He is our sufficiency. Peter took a very wise decision to leave fish for Jesus. It’s like leaving sugar for honey, happiness for joy. Peter’s choice was one of service and discipleship. He forsook all to follow Jesus. Later he got to know that for everything he had left, he could have 100 fold of each. What a wise decision he made!
Knowing my own walk with Jesus, I testify to one hour of felt conversation in the spirit is worth more then a year of mortal living. Jesus our Lord and savior keeps his word. The word says God is not a man that he can lie. Poverty with the Lord is better then all the riches of the world. I owned upto 3 years ago a profitable consulting business making $40,000.00 a month to $450.00 a month. We aren’t use to being without but God is meeting our needs. We aren’t on the street and some how we are getting by with that and social security. I know God is going to send more, but I am not a money monger. I love the lord and worry to be ready for his coming. The Lord saw me knew me before he put me in my Mother. I am going through a tough time, I have been being attacked for 3 year by demons and I think some form of witchcraft. I say that because they cut me and my husband with knifes, we wake up and we are bleeding. I am scarred all over my legs, my nose has been changed, bones hair and all parts. I wake up and parts of my body are gone. At first I was very freaked out, I settled down and just put more and more every day into the Lord. He knows what going on, he knows who it is and if he says every hair on your head is
numbered. Do we not know, that the purpose is because the groomer of us as a garden watcheth over everything; when they think he know not. he knoweth all. Yes, yes everyone who made Peters choice knows they made the right decision. We may not always understand why the answer to all of our wants arent yes but he has reason and when we are allowed to look back we are relieved and feel the pursperation ready to slip down the brow and axiety grips our throat and relieve settle to our spirit. We never have to wonder again did I make the right choice to follow the Lord.
An example is, I use to travel and the airlines and travel are becoming more and more dangerous. Especially if you were like us traveling 32 to out 36 weeks out of the year.
Peter made the only and best choice, Jesus has more then kept his word pray to the Father cry out and speak to our Lord he is there. It doesnt matter the time night or day. When you are wrestling with a decision, God will settle you. The word says when you have died out to sin fully and you have been made pure. You will reach a suffering trial or fierce tribulation, I suppose like the one I am confronted with; I am a child of God and so even in this postion as odd as you may think it I have know fear. I know the Lord my god is with me, but it in senses me that the enemy thinks he can walk on Gods children. I am waiting for god to react. So I suffer, thinking I know who, what, how things are happening but in reality may not but I have not to worry for the Lord is with me. He keeps me in all things, he is my shephard and his coming is soon. We will never have to be anxious again. He is the author and finisher of our faith, we can never be lonely again or without if we just lean on him and get out of his way. He is a friend in time of trouble, a way maker. Pray to him, talk to him, approach him honestly and he will answer but it isnt always what we want but it is the protective place we should be. When things are in front of us we dont realize or see the end, but he knows from our beginning our end and our response. When we fail he picks us up and dust us off. I love the Lord and am glad I took the path of Peter to Love the Lord and trust him every day of my life even when I dont understand. God bless
