Read Matthew 13:5-6
We are called to run a race – a marathon. The Christian race is not something you run for a few days and retire. In the parable of the swore recorded in Matthew13:5-6, Jesus talked of the seeds that fell among stony places.
While attempting to germinate, the seeds could not find much soil, so they could not take toot downwards. When the sun rose, they were scorched and withered immediately. One reason some believer drift off from the Christian race is because they were prepared to go the whole hog in the first place.
Their salvation experience was superficial: it has no depth-no root. So many are still in the race-just temporarily, until they get an impressive offer from the world.
The reason some people refuse to take bribe or partake in some fraudulent activities is because they consider the amount involved to small to meet their fancy. But if it is sizeable enough, they are prepared to dump their faith in Christ.
Such people do not have root. When fierce winds blow, it is the deep-rooted tree that survives. Are you a rooted or rootless Christian?
If you agree to sleep with your boss because you desperately wanted that promotion or wanted to be the few short-listed for oversea programme, you are rootless Christian. You have no depth. If you are easily persuaded to try something else other than then Jesus Christ, you make lack root.
If you decided to be a Christian for now to fulfill all righteousness, or to enable you obtain certain benefits, your race will soon end. Only rooted Christians will be ready to suffer for Christ until death or till He comes.
Our race does not terminate or earth but in heaven. Only believers who are rooted and grounded in God’s word will make it to Heaven. Today, rootless Christians have engaged themselves in another race-the race for material acquisition.
They have left the race to Heaven for the race for earth. What is your focus today? Are you easily pressurized into sin? Have you abandoned your original race for an earthly one? It is time to repent and get back on line. Never leave the only race that terminates in Heaven.
