Bishop T.D. Jakes: the Virtuous Woman

Read Proverbs 31:10-31

As we read on, we see that a virtuous woman is also a vigilant woman she does not spend her days reading little romance novel on the couch, wishing for a story book life. In act, she does not engage in fantasy of any kind. She accepts the realities of her life and works hard she is a cook, a home manger, a real estate buyer, an investor, a seam street, a fitness buff! She’s a fashion plate herself and makes sure that her family always looks sharp (See Proverbs 31:21,22). She is never lazy, but stays active in sprit, soul and body.

            Virtuous woman is a person of confidence and kindness. She “perceives that her merchandise is good,” which tells me that this woman is not given to false humility, self-abasement, or the “you’re no good, you’re good, you’re no good” lie of the devil. Daughter of God, arrogance is ugly, but there are few things more attractive than a woman who knows exactly who God has made her to be, who she is.

            This woman is a giver. She cares for those around her who do not have as much as she does. She is aware of the needs of others and quick to respond. She knows that God is a generous God, the giver of every good and perfect gift (see James 1:17). She is eager to bless others as He has blessed her. In your quest to mature in Christ and to develop the character of a godly woman, do not neglect to cultivate generosity. Be assured, my sister, that selfishness will leave you lonely, so practice the ministry of sharing. A woman who has learned to live with an open hand and an open heart is a blessing to many.

            In verse 23, the bible speaks again of the virtuous woman’s husband. It tells us that he is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the Land”. I have something wondered why the scripture contains this one sentence about her husband in the middle of a lengthy description of the woman. I believe the writer knew a timeless secret that many people in our modern world seem to have forgotten: a woman can have tremendous impact on her man’s success. She can inspire him like no one else.

She is created to help him and encourage him and call forth his gifts. A former United States first lady was once asked, what you would have done if you had married your high school sweetheart, who became a moderately successful farmer. You wouldn’t have had the chance to be first lady.” She replied, oh of course I would have that ol’would have been the president of the United State”. It is so true: Behind every good man, there is indeed a good woman.

            The virtuous woman is decorated with strength and honor. By now you know that life is not for the fainthearted. To live well, you must develop strength spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. But in your growing strong, be careful not to leave behind your femininity, your grace, your gentles, and your tender heart. Strive for honor and integrity, remembering always that the truth makes you free (see 8:32). You can lose a lot, but if you hold on to your honour, you will always be rich.
