Memorise: “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Col 1:27). Read: Luke 24:13-17 |
| “And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?” (Luke 24:17). After Jesus died, He was buried. A few days later, two of His disciples on their way to Emmaus village began a conversation. The news of His resurrection was heralded by some of their women.
Peter went to the sepulchre where He was buried but did not find His body; only that His clothes were neatly wrapped and arranged. As they reflected over their loss of Jesus Christ, the two were in sorrow. Not long after, Jesus joined them in the discourse but they did not recognize Him. The lesson here is that when a man loses Jesus, he loses everything. People say if you lose money, you haven’t lost anything. This is because as long as you live, you can always make fresh money. They believe that when you lose your life, you have lost something valuable. Hence, those days, when accosted by armed robbers, they asked: “Which do you choose – your money or your life?”. In Luke 2:40-46, Joseph and Mary went to Jerusalem for the yearly Passover feast. On their way back, they left Jesus behind. They were so carried away with activities that they left behind the One behind the feast. Do you get so carried away with church activities that you no longer have time to cultivate your relationship with the Lord of the church? If your spiritual life is ebbing and your fire is dying because of various preaching and ministerial activities, it is high time you went on a personal recess. Take a break. If you lose Jesus in the midst of activities and die in that state, you will go to hell. Your personal relationship with Christ is more important to God than your service. Your poor relationship nullifies your service for Him. There are other dangers of losing Christ. Colossians 1:27 calls Jesus the hope of Glory. Anyone who loses Jesus has lost the hope of glory. Your glory is embedded in Christ. If you lose Him, you can never access that glory. Psalm 16:11 says fullness of joy comes from being with Christ. If you lose Christ, it will surely tamper with your joy. Sorrow will take over pleasure. Anyone who loses Jesus has lost his or her helper. Exodus 15:26 says He is the Healer. If you lose Him, all hope for healing may be lost. Such a fellow may as well be prepared to remain in sickness. John 9:4 says He is the light of the world. Losing Him means walking in darkness. John 10:10 says He has come to give life. No Jesus, no life. Have you lost Jesus? Do what is needful to have Him back today. Retrace your steps and return to your first love. |
